His father Narhari Shambhu was a very good weaver, while his mother was a religious and dutiful woman who had a great influence on Vinoba. His grandfather Shambhurao had a lot of support in his upbringing. Not only this, he had also acquired knowledge of religious texts like Bhagavad Gita from his grandfather at an early age.

About three years after the country got independence, Bhave ji started many movements for the upliftment of the society, of which the Bhoodan movement was prominent.
