Vatsa Ashish Batra is an Indian student who secured the second rank in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test NEET-UG 2022. NEET is the highly competitive medical entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in India every year. He secured the 99.99th percentile. On 17 July 2022, the exam was conducted all over India at different centres and the results were declared on 8 September 2022. Tanishka was declared the topper of the NEET-UG 2022.

Vatsa Ashish attained AIR 2 in NEET 2022. He secured 715 marks out of 720 and 99.99th percentile. He studied for the NEET examinations at Aakash BYJU coaching institute.

The four top students Tanishka, Vatsa Ashish Batra, Hrishikesh Nagbhushan Gangule, and Rucha Pawashe from Karnataka secured the same marks and percentile in NEET 2022 i.e. 715 marks or 99.9997733 percentile. However, the National Testing Agency (NTA) followed a tie-breaker rulebook to announce the toppers. The rule was disclosed by one of the NTA officials in a media interview. The NTA official stated,
Candidates who scored identical marks are accorded ranks as per the tie-breaker rule where the candidate with higher marks in biology is ranked above the rest. In case of identical marks in biology, the same rule is applied for chemistry followed by physics. Even after this, if the scores remain identical, the elder candidate gets the higher rank.”

Facts/Trivia

  • According to Vatsa Ashish, he opted to study medicine as he loved the subjects and found that being a doctor is a noble profession. In a media conversation on 8 September 2022, he wished to become a surgeon after completing his MBBS degree, and added that he might opt for civil services later in his life and follow the path of his parents. He said,
    If I get the opportunities, I might take up civil services, later in life. I have not decided yet.”
    He added that for the last two years, he was working hard for the examination and focused on NEET during his senior secondary classes. He said,
    In class 11, I did not study much for NEET. It was only in class 12 that I gave a lot of time for the exam preparation. Apart from tuition, I used to self-study for 6 to 7 hours each day.”
